Toyota has added another revolutionary model to the stellar line-up of new Prius cars: the Prime plug-in hybrid. The Prius Prime is the most advanced Prius to date, and stands to usher in a new era of hybrids that don’t just offer impressive performance, but also the latest in technological development. We break down some of the Prime’s innovative features below.

Prime Performance

Getting gas is a bothersome errand, but one you’ll rarely have to do when driving the Prius Prime! Powered by a modified version of the Hybrid Synergy Drive system with added regenerative braking, the Prime offers the highest fuel economy ratings in its segment at an EPA-estimated 55 city/53 highway/54 combined MPG. The Prime also houses a larger lithium-ion battery than any of the other Prius models, providing an impressive all-electric range of up to 25 miles.

A Look of Its Own

From its lowered aerodynamic stance to its exclusive styling features, the Prime boldly ventures into new design territory. Quad LED headlights, a LED rear combination lamp, a carbon-fiber rear hatch and sharp body lines are just a few of the eye-catching aspects of the hybrid’s exterior.

If looking at the Prius Prime feels like glimpse into the future, wait until you get a peek inside the modern cabin. One of the central features is the 11.6-inch vertical HD multimedia display, standard on Prius Prime Premium models. Equipped with Entune Premium Audio with navigation and app suite, the display operates similarly to a tablet for ease-of-use. Another feature that starts on the Premium grade is the wireless phone charging pad, which makes it a whole lot easier to stay connected.

Advanced Safety Tech

The Prius Prime comes standard with a rearview camera, along with the Toyota Safety Sense P safety system which includes Automatic Highbeams, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert and Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Automatic Braking. The top-tier Prius Prime Advanced adds Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Safety Connect services and Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Intelligent Parking Assist.
