The Toyota 4Runner has always been a name that comes to mind for customers wanting a rugged, off-road-ready SUV. But in 2020, Toyota makes some changes to the 4Runner's interior to make it more tech-savvy and safer than before. Now, you'll find a standard suite of once-available driver-assist safety aids in the 2020 4Runner. All trims now get the Safety Sense package as a standard feature, which helps the driver carefully maneuver and avoid accidents.
The 4Runner still has a spacious and comfortable cabin with ample room for occupants in both rows. The SUV also has a generously-sized cargo storage area with versatile storage solutions. While these new changes affect all trims, the 2020 4Runner also gets several trim-specific features, too. A total of eight paint colors gives your 4Runner a custom look. The entry-level 4Runner is called the SR5. It comes with several standard features and some extra add-on options. The SR5 has seating space for seven individuals. Technology and connectivity are not left behind with a standard eight-inch display screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and compatibility with Amazon Alexa. The SR5 also has a 120V power charging outlet. The SR5 has 17-inch wheels. It also gets automatic headlights. The SR5 Premium builds on that list with a smart-key entrance, a push-button start, and a high-resolution infotainment display. You can choose rear-wheel-drive, too.
The TRD Off-Road gets a more off-road-ready look and design with trim badges on the outside, a locking differential, hill-start assist, and select driving modes. Its infotainment system gets a boost with eight speakers and dynamic navigation. The successive trim, called the TRD Off-Road Premium, features heated seats in front and red embroidery on the headrests. It also gets exterior badges. The Venture Special Edition gets a black-and-gray color scheme on the outside with black bumpers, a blacked-out rear spoiler, and dark door handles.
Its wheels get a unique dark gray finish, too. A cargo basket sits on the roof. The Limited gets more luxury with climate control in both rows and leather seats. With this trim, you can choose a seating capacity for five instead of seven. Front and back parking sensors are included. The Nightshade Edition looks much like the Venture Special Edition, but it also has a blacked-out interior. The TRD Pro gets shocks designed for off-road use, LED fog lights, and a signature front grille.
All trims of the 2020 Toyota 4Runner receive the same engine. They are equipped with a 4.0L V6 engine with five cylinders that can crank out up to 270 HP at a maximum of 5,600 RPM. All trims share the same five-speed shiftable transmission, too. Rear-wheel drive, available four-wheel drive, and full four-wheel drive are your drivetrain options.
Toyota takes safety seriously in the 4Runner, which features a protective barrier with a sturdy body frame and door beams designed to mitigate side impact energy. Tire pressure monitoring, traction control, child safety locks, and the Safety Sense package with pedestrian alert, forward collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, and more are included.
