Now in its eighth generation, the Toyota Camry continues as one of the bestselling mid-size sedans. Its roomy interior, functional design, and safety scores are the big selling points. For 2020, the Camry sedan gets a major upgrade. Android Auto smartphone compatibility is now standard across the trim lineup. For the first time, the Camry is offered with four-wheel drive. The performance-oriented TRD model joins the lineup. The 2020 Camry Hybrid comes with most of these new features, as well.
The gasoline-only 2020 Camry is available in a total of six trims. The base L model comes with 16-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, a 7-inch screen display, a USB port, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker stereo system. The LE trim adds on alloy wheels, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a split-folding rear seatback, and dual charge-only USB ports. The SE has a more sporty design and comes with unique exterior trim, a sport-tuned suspension, simulated leather seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters.
The XLE and XSE trims are upgraded versions of the LE and SE. They come with an upgraded audio package, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The new TRD trim has all the features of the SE model and adds 19-inch painted black wheels, an aerodynamic body kit, upgraded brakes, and extra bracing in the chassis.
The 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid comes in three trims, LE, SE, and XLE. The features are similar to the gas-only models, but the interior design is a bit different because of the location of the battery pack. The Camry Hybrid can be purchased with one of several packages, including the Audio Upgrade package that adds smartphone charging and dual-zone climate control. The optional sunroof for the hybrid version is also part of an upgrade package.
The base engine in the 2020 Camry is a 2.5L four-cylinder rated at 203 horsepower. The XLE and XSE can be purchased with a 3.5L V6 that produces a total of 301 horsepower. All Camry models are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all four-cylinder engine models except the base L trim can be purchased with all-wheel drive. The Camry Hybrid has these same engine choices but mates them with a 650-volt electric motor. Net power output with the four-cylinder engine is 208 horsepower.
The complete Toyota Safety Sense package is standard on all Camry trims. This package includes a forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and a rearview camera. The Convenience package can be added if the buyer wants a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. This package is available on the uplevel trims, as well. All Camry models come with a full set of airbags, cruise control, the LATCH system of child seat anchors and tethers, antilock brakes, and a pre-collision safety system. The Camry also has a post-collision safety system that includes automatic door lock and unlock. The 2020 models received a perfect five stars for overall crash protection from the NHTSA.
