This summer, Toyota announced its investment in the EV charging network IONNA to support the development of a high-powered charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles across North America. Toyota, alongside six other automakers, is backing IONNA with the aim of improving access to charging stations for EV owners.
IONNA plans to install at least 30,000 charging ports across North America by 2030. These stations will be equipped with both NACS and CCS connectors to ensure compatibility with all BEVs. The first round of DC fast-charging stations will be rolled out this year, with more to follow across the country.
This initiative reflects Toyota's strong commitment to BEVs. The company currently offers two BEV models: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. In addition, Toyota plans to launch two three-row BEV SUVs soon and is on track to introduce 30 BEV models across its Toyota and Lexus brands by 2030.
Toyota joins other leading automakersāincluding BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantisāin supporting IONNA. With this collective effort to improve EV charging infrastructure, electric vehicles are expected to become even more popular.
